The Anti-Pornography-&-Prostitution Research Group (APP-JP) is a non-profit and non-governmental organization in Japan.

Today, "sexual liberals" assert such very pervasive arguments that there is no problem with pornography or prostitution, because women in it freely consent to perform for it or engage in it.

APP-JP was established in December 1999 by several scholars and activists (women and men) to challenge the arguments and to inquire into various problems of pornography and prostitution from the viewpoint of feminism that advocates women's human rights and sex equality.

In order to stop the harms of pornography and prostitution, APP-JP works on the activities as follows:

(1) to cooperate with counselors or lawyers to built the network of supporting the victims and survivors of pornography and prostitution;

(2) to investigate into the facts of the harms to make an appeal to our society through publications, forums etc, and to change people's consciousness, social institutions, and laws.

People (especially women) have many kinds of harms of pornography: (1) to be coerced, intimidated, or fraudulently induced into performance for pornography; (2) in the process of making pornography, to be forced to do sexual acts beyond advance consents, and physically and/or psychically attacked and injured them; (3) to be photographed or video filmed their sexual acts and bodies by parent(s), husbands, or loves and then used as porno pictures without consent (4) to be forced to see or watch pornography or to do the same acts of pornography by parents, husbands, or loves, (5) to be forced to see pornography in employment, education, or other public places; (6) to be sexually assaulted, attacked and injured due to specific pornography; (7) through trafficking of pornography, to denigrate women, diminish women's social and economic and political opportunities, reduce women's human rights, and violate sex equality; (8) to combine their faces or parts of bodies with porno pictures and exhibit them without their consents, or to use their names or their own features in the pornographic contexts to exhibit them.

We believe that the harms of pornography happen far more than we imagine. For example, if you watch legal porn videos, you can see how cruelly women and men were harmed and battered in them.
